This was always the consensus and only a handful of contrarian spergs on /vr/ argue otherwise. D2 is timeless; an unironic contender for best game ever made. D1 was a game you'll probably have a lot of nostalgia for if you grew up with it, but it's as deep as a puddle and has very slow, stilted movement and combat. D1 is a "good" game, but it's inferior to D2 in every objective manner.

I also find it odd how any time this gets brought up, you inevitably have the guy who says "D1 had better atmosphere brooo". That shit boggles my mind. Great atmosphere, yes, but not better. Outside of Tristram itself D1 is mostly an aesthetic bore. D2 is riddled with ambiance. Nothing in D1 compares to common experiences of D2 like finding some little shack in chapter 1 while it's dark and rainy outside, and using it as a temporary refuge to manage your inventory or message a friend -- let alone the more epic moments.

D2 is just a killer fucking game, man. I will be playing this shit for the rest of my life.
