The last truly good year for anime, in my opinion, was 2011. Not so much because of Fagdoka and Fate, but because of C: The Money of Soul, and the good amount of absolute cult classics which were released that year. Unfortunately, it was also the single best example that I can think of where, if in that year you weren't watching an absolute 10/10 slapper, then whatever you were watching was fucking garbage or abominable, unrepentant pedoshit.

2012 also had a few hits... Nichibros immediately comes to mind... But the same is true of every season. This season is actually better than most seasons in recent memory, but OP is absolutely right to be looking backwards in time. People are barely involved in drawing anime anymore, and the quality standards have dropped dramatically since the late 00's.
