>implying devs, even small indie companies (pls understand) get to keep 100% of the money
>implying Ubisoft wouldn't factor in refunds, free keys, and Ubisoft+ "sales" in the 4m

To be fair, most ESG/DEI stuff has to be super overt about it to get their investment money. Just trying to slip in a single character with a line of dialogue that implies they're LGBT wont get you a dime.

I still don't understand FF7R, nor do I understand why it would even sell a single copy.
>changes enough shit to piss off old fans
>too "anime" for most normalfags and possibly new (non-weeb) fans
>full-blown yellow paint shit everywhere, pissing off anyone with an IQ above 90
>split across multiple games, making it both harder to play and harder to follow, and it's probably going to go on long enough to span 3 gens, at the rate it's going
>not CUHRAAAAZY enough to pull in action fans
>not slow enough to pull in ATB/turn-based fans
>censored tits, pissing off purists, coomers and weebs

It's not hard for a dev/publisher to see income from being on a game sub like Game Pass, they have hard numbers they could quote, and they probably do include it in their overall sales figures.
Money made isn't the thing being muddied here, it's "copies sold" since you can't just say everyone that played it "bought" it, and that's why they have to cock it up and say "players". Plus the bigger number pleases shareholders.
