In Craig's defense, he was able to improve his act somehow when he created "Wander over Yonder". Ben, on the other hand, seems incapable of creating anything other than more Gumball. Even his dream of creating something for older audiences ended up with nothing to show for it and - with Smiling Friends still around - there is no room for him to pull it off.
