I have episodes like The Bumpkin right next to The Robot as some of my favorite episodes but I would say they are substantially different from each other in everything they do. I think the contrast between the two in how they handle their emotions captures the range of "sentimental" to" fucked up" I like seeing pretty well.
I like The Game and The Fridge so I definitely would say I like it when there's a competitive aspect with the family that drives things into Hell. I might be imagining it but I feel like it's mostly a missing aspect with them in later seasons. Either that or its largely diminished enough where it doesn't register to me anymore.
And I see The Words now and I do like that episode tons too. I love it when the boys bicker with each other and that's why I also love The Bet, The Flakers, and The Promise. Again that's another thing I feel is missing in later seasons, they lost their bite with each other so their moments of reconciliation means less to me now.
I'm actually a person that generally likes the dynamics between Penny and Gumball prior to and after The Shell. I'm fine with their early don't cross the line awkwardness and I'm fine with them beating the hell out of each other because I let cartoon antics triumph over most things. I actually really like The Amadain btw.
With that said I think The Ex is fucking hilarious, and overalI I like most Rob episodes. The nature of his existence being tied to the Void is something I find concerning for the overall "narrative" of the show despite the praise I can throw at him.
And I complained about The Others earlier in this thread because I think it has a meta nature that brings disastrous implications to the show, but the actual episode enjoyed as a stand-alone thing is fair enough. I can like an episode in one regard and dislike it for another, and generally that's my approach with the show even though at times I really can get annoyed with the show for things it does.
