Why? Sonic has basically never reused a gimmick like this except for Shadow Generations being a retake of Sonic Gens ideas. There is nothing left to explore with the Frontiers lore. They need a new story and a new setting.
The one time I WANTED them to reuse a setting gimmick (Unleashed sequel with more world-themed locations) they didn't.
