Bungie could’ve marketed Marathon as a “return to form” after the Destiny live service shit and it would’ve probably generated more hype as people are now jaded towards Destiny and nostalgic for Halo. If you think about it, they really had a home run set up in front of them. They’d be set for the next 20 years remaking Marathon 1-3, giving it the same care they gave to Halo and introducing the IP to a younger audience while also milking Gen X nostalgia but unfortunately hubris and marketing exec influence has eroded the company into trend chasing slop that will probably end up imploding the company and forcing a merge into Sony
