You can use blood without it being gory. it may sound weird but I consider Love Town to be "gory" but not pic related, not because of the artstyle or quality but because of some narrative tonal reason i can't quite put my finger on. Mildly offtopic but SMT3 does the same "non-gory blood" thing at times.
