Even then, MTV has been irrelevant for a couple generations now. There is no hope of trying to make it the centerpoint of youth culture ever again.
It only got to that level when it appeared at the early days of Cable, the new entertainment technology of the era. There is no bringing that back more than a decade after everyone under 50 stopped bothering with Broadcast tv. And two and a half decades after everyone stopped giving a shit about music videos.
Even mainstream music is long dead as a cultural juggernaut.
It's not just MTV that is dead, but everything that was a huge part of it is also dead. And it has been dead for a long time.
