>armor produced by an offshore company not in the us
Define "produced", because the NIJ defines that as just location of final assembly. Little known fact. Most of the consumer armor companies get their ceramic strike faces from the same source. Hesco for instance imports many of their Alumina ceramic strike faces from Bitossi, which is Italian. So does Highcom, LTC, and as of 3/4/25, RMA for a "CORBIT 997" monolithic strike face. This is 99.7% pure Aluminum Oxide, which is significantly higher grade than the 1155 / 1165. Pretty sure that's for the XRT that launched around 5/25.
In other words, most of the "American"entry-level LE/civ-focused plates are half-Italian. Bitossi does Alumina and sintered SiC. Anything else can be from other suppliers.
