FYI from last thread, all recent /gq/ infographics are now kept in an imgur album: https://imgur.com/a/gq-infographic-emporium-1-00-1lZ5xw6
Since the subject got raised last thread, mag pouches.
And breaching tools, haven't busted this one out in a minute. That's all I'll post for now.
>>64006207I'm actually genuinely curious about this now. Why would they make and sell multiple worse versions on purpose?
I assume the "small" version's numbers being worse are because it doesn't fit as well in the industry standard test rig (or something), but what about the other ones?
>all infographics are hosted in an imgur album

>>64005924If you have hours to burn, a cordura thread spool, some webbing, pliers, and a bottle cap, you can bypass some price walls.
>>64005924I'd like to see pants beltโattached MOLLE panels so you could have X number of MOLLE columns attached to your pants without necessarily committing to a whole battle beltโjust, like, 12" here and 6" there or whatever
Like you could have a shingle that had your 2รpistol 1รrifle dump pouch and IFAK wrapped around your 11โ6-o'clock and leave the other half of your beltline free for an IWB holster and not have the extra MOLLE belt bulk in places you don't need it
It's a niche application, but somebody probably needs/wants it.
>>64005924>Is there a niche not being filled by anyone currently?Magazine pouches and Spiritus-compatible (e.g., JSTA 5.56+pistol) inserts specifically for AUG magazines
Lots of pouches fitโusually AK pouchesโand Esstac makes a handful of AUG-specific SKUs but there's a market space drooling for magazine pouches explicitly bespoke for the third-most-popular assault rifle in the world.
>>64006607setup looks comfy
>>64006629 Ronin Tactics Gun Sleeve, and The Raptor Tactical Molle Extentions come to mind
>>64006676>>64006629Why not just buy an AXL eclipse? These are a bargain if you already have an inner belt, if not buy a temu one
>>64006676Right ballpark, but they look like they're made with the expectation that you'll velcro them around an inner belt; I'm looking for a sleeve that you can basically MOLLE-weave onto any trouser beltโsomething halfway between clipping individual pouches onto your normie belt and committing to the fuzzy belt life.
Infographictard is a nigger faggot who sucks AIDS-ridden cock through gloryholes.
Took me 5 minutes to make and literally everything I put in it is objectively correct and the best setup possible.
>>64006682chicom rig? how you like it?

>>64006707>Buy a safariland holsterYeah, I wish I could, except they don't make them for my pistol.
>>64006242Where do breachpens fit into this?
>>64006733"quit being pointlessly contrarian and buy a Glock like a normal person"
>>64006723No, its a tactical tailor rig. It's great for what it is, magazine retention plus 2 fuckhuge gp pouches. 12 ar mags or 8 ak mags.
>>64006707lol whoever made this clearly owns none of the gear in the picture, hopefully its ironic but this place is so retarded sometimes you can't tell
>>64006707yeah, the infographics are way better than whatever this is
>>64006765I want to believe that "just become a trauma surgeon, bro" is not meant seriously.
>>64006607That's basically the plan, except with a heavy duty sewing machine. So long as I could bust out one piece in a combined 20 minutes of steps, I'd be earning more than my last shitty job.
>>64006777Hope you got that one tool to undo seams. Since I didn't have one, I had to hand do them all while trying not to accidently locking the molle on the other side. That tool could've made my dusty sewing machine get some work in by opening up that inner material. Other than that and marking where to sew with a marker, good luck.
>>64006706>that you can basically MOLLE-weave onto any trouser beltErrata: actually, it should attach via clips so you can just pop on half of a battle belt while you're digging your Sig Rattler or B&T TP9 out of your giant EDC backpack when shit pops off
This is a very specific use case but the target audience will whip out their credit cards instantly as soon as they find out the product exists
>>64006629Add a small spot for the shins for EDCs and use a bit extra thread to make sure things don't rip off after a while
>>64006777>a heavy duty sewing machineI have been told that Singer is mid at best and basically coasting on brand recognition.
>>64006707The dump pouch is literally the one piece of gear that is actually useful and not some faggot ass iwishiservedbutimtooscaredtoobutgonnassyitsbecauseofzog cope
>>64006798Actually actually, since you don't have to offer dozens of SKUs per colorway to accommodate different belt sizesโjust a couple to accommodate 2p1r/1p2r and different size dump/medicalโyou could have fast-attach clips, "beltMOLLE" (a series of horizontal passthroughs that the user could route over/under depending on the location of his pants belt loops), and some sort of hook/loop attachment for normal liner belts
>>64006765>>64006772Literally go on the socomarchive page and you'll find at least 100 pictures of that exact setup

>>64007707It's like half the thread at this point. I don't know who's worse, the guys consistently egging him on, or him. I'll admit I was one of the first people to point out the infographics weren't really the best, but then it blew up to like a four thread long debate.
>>64006707This is shitposty, but its kinda right. Looking at the old pastebins and comparing them to 2025 recs, the things that have stood the test of time are JPCs, 3-mag placards and AWS belts. Only reason people want anything else is because every mfer has to be different; they want to flex and feel special by having something esoteric. Which I guess is the whole point of being a gearqueer, but it doesn't make for useful recommendations.
>>64007795I live /innawoods/ anon. I love it, and Iโm considering a TAPS rig but donโt want to end up dressing like the recon class from bf4. Which I almost do anyway.
>>64006223 (OP)Do we have any other swamperators innathread?
I'm going to cut the belt off that comes with the waders and mate the loops to a rigger's belt so I can add my normal belt kit to the set up
>>64007874>the things that have stood the test of timeThey really haven't. This is just everyone larping as late GWOT oper8ors. That gear choice was for a very narrow use case by professionals and shouldn't be inspiration for Anon's kit.
>JPCThe JPC is a very niche carrier. People only recommend because its cheap while still being crye and therefore gucci. And its so small its comfortable when flat range larping. But it has a lot of downsides anyone who has ever used them knows very well. It falls apart, especially where the shoulder straps meet the platebag. And they are really easy to overload. It has its place but it really shouldn't be the go to option. if you want crye, get the AVS. If you want a relatively lightweight carrier with a structural bund, there's a bunch of options that are more durable than the JPC. BUT they wont get you reddit points.
>3-mag placards Not enough ammo for any real use case. The 3 mag thing is such a gamer/larper setup. Its gone way past meme state to just embarrassing.
>AWS beltsThese are actually great. But like the JPC, pistol shooters belts are over emphasized. If you want a good made in America belt for USPSA or as a cop, its a good option. Its not ideal for a rifleman. LBE belts that can carry a real load are more appropriate.
>>64007963>People only recommend because its cheap while still being crye and therefore gucci. And its so small its comfortable when flat range larping. This is all that really matters IMO. The point is fundamentally to get plates on chests, and in that sense the JPC is a perfectly good starting carrier. People will from there decide their specific needs and preferences based on use and change to something more suitable for them if they wish.
>It falls apart, especially where the shoulder straps meet the platebag. It doesn't get said enough, but all nylon is perishable.
>BUT they wont get you reddit points. They absolutely will, reddit thrives on novelty and having an enlightened third option.
>Not enough ammo for any real use case. That doesn't preclude carrying more ammo elsewhere, only that you'll inevitably put 3 mags across your front.
>Its not ideal for a rifleman.I find the rifleman obsession of today as dubious as the SOF obsession of 10 years ago. LBE is situational, and IMO pistols are more relevant to civilians than rifles.
A lot of people slobber on belt kits these days. Unless youโre larping I donโt see how itโs better than real backpack+chest rig.
>>64008007>reddit thrives on novelty and having an enlightened third option.Reddit thrives on nothing. That's it, just nothing. There is no soul, no joy, just the mechanical slavery of the votes in strict adherence with the hivemind.
What is the hivemind, you ask? It is the opinion of the week. It is whatever must sell, so it is whatever shall be shilled. Such is the way of reddit.
>>64007878Anything that carries "what you need"
>>64007878Take a look at the Citadel Defense Spectre chest rig. Holds up to 6 AR mags, has 2 GP pouches similar to the USGI canteen pouch, map pocket, H-harness included, made in USA, etc. $210. Not as cheap as a surplus TAP rig, but a hell of a lot better.
https://www.citadeldefensemn.com/store/p/the-spectre-american-minuteman-chest-rig
>>64008007>IMO pistols are more relevant to civilians than rifles. In general yes I agree. pistols are more relevant. You don't CCW an AR. But carrying a pistol on your full kit is a waste of space and weight. Rifle kit and CCW kit are two separate things. I have one real use case for open carrying a handgun that isn't competition, and its protection from predators while hunting.
>but all nylon is perishable.Sure but there's a difference between perishable and fragile. JPCs got a reputation as a one deployment carrier in the military for a reason.
>That doesn't preclude carrying more ammo elsewhere, only that you'll inevitably put 3 mags across your front.Sure, but the shitpost I was critiquing, and most advice with them just end there. And we step back and look at the larger picture, a JPC is not a good platform for carrying a lot more ammo once you factor in the other things you need too. You could pair it with an LBE belt, but the guys I see doing real belt kit aren't wearing JPCs too. There's a correlation with JPCs, three mags, and a pistol belt as the setup. And its the totality of the setup that's the real issue.
>>64008026Different use cases. Belt kits can carry more than a chest rig and more comfortably but are more mobile than a backpack. You can wear a pack with a belt rig but its going to be a smaller 30-35L rather than a full ruck. The butt pack and belt basically takes up the bottom of a ruck. Chest rigs are betting with getting in and out of vehicles and your stuff is quicker to get to.
I don't think the JPC is a great buy in 2025. If you want a JPC style carrier with a structural cummerbund, take a look at the Javlin Concepts A-JAC. The plate bags are $199, and their structural cummerbund with Tubes is $167. Then add whatever you want.

>>64007122yeah but youre not a socom operator anon.
>>64007878TAPS is based, cheap and versatile. useful for a lot of stuff, doesnt even need to be ""tactical"".
>>64008007if the goal is to get plates on chests, then literally any basic condor tier carrier will work.
>>64007963and fwiw the 3 mag placard is realistically fine for a vast majority of applications a civilian will face. 6+ mags only make sense for extended ops without supply, nobody ITT will be experiencing that. At best its a good setup for 2 gun, at worst its just a LARP (and most idiots aren't honest with themselves when it comes to LARPing)
>>64008642>At best its a good setup for 2 gun, should specify that the 3 mag placard is what I was talking about
>>64008007>The point is fundamentally to get plates on chests,This feels like a way to rehabilitate RMA back into /gq/, if the goal is to "just get plates on chests" then a pair of crappy 1155s is only $200.
>>64008662>rehabilitate RMAlol. Impossible. Aside from Reddit, even the most clickbait shill websites on the internet know that RMA is shit.

>>64008662>>64008678Still very well regarded on Arfcom since Buff is doing a lot of legwork for them with the 1165 and XRT.
In reality I'd argue it is actually the inverse. RMA's reputation is generally good among most forums, but poor for people that have been around the block a few times and remember the 1145, 1155, 1189, 1192, and 1199 fiascos as they happened. Where they gained significant ground is with the easily-swayed crowd that would ordinarily buy Botach / AR500 - which also got ripped pretty badly by the 4SUS4.

Finally pulled the trigger on an Opscore SF and some Comtac 8s and god damn itโs so much better than an ACH and some shitty Howard Leights
>>64008642>>64008658>fwiw the 3 mag placard is realistically fine for a vast majority of applications a civilian will face.Outside of competition and larp a civilian would only be in a situation where full kit is appropriate if things have gone seriously wrong. In which case, resupply from who? I think 6 mags on kit and one in the gun is a reasonable starting point. That's a basic fighting load.
>>64008763I agree. Even then, that's one engagement and you're going to be light if you're re-engaged or run into a second force. It's ultimately a function of your objective, expected resupply capability, environment, and your own fitness.
>>64008733Fuck yeah dude. Also if you or any anon thinks about getting amp arms for your comtacs, please use the gibbous adapters over the AXL's. AXL was big doo doo
http://gibbousoutfitters.com/products/comtac-headset-adapter
>>64008763>>64008774yes exactly, but the point is that it will NEVER HAPPEN. When you internalize this, you realize that everything else is a LARP
>>64008799I was considering the noizebarrier arms with gibbous adapters before, but I realized they would get in the way of the little Velcro patch I have on the side for downlead retention. How do you secure your cables?
>>64008817Depends on the location on the helmet, but usually cable retention solutions are velcro, 550 cord, shock cord, small bungie cords, or zipties.
>>64008827*and gorilla tape, almost forgot
>>64008827I understand that, I was asking how/where you specifically retain your cables with the amp arms. Right now I have the koffin Velcro patch on the side that retains them so they donโt smack me in the neck
>>64008808>tfw you spent 10k to prepare for something that will never happen because nothing ever happens and whatever happens is nothing

>>64006707>non-retarded infographic>buy a JPC 1.0I'm glad to see airsofters still browse /gq/
So im looking for light/mid/heavy weight jackets to use when stationary that i can put over my plate carrier.
I'd just be wearing a combat shirt while moving and putting the jacket on after stopping for long pauses.
Im in Europe so mind that for availability, they also have to be available in multicam.
LIGHT
Carinthia TLG, seems to be the best option, can find it new for a good price, light and Packable, decent outer shell durability.
Arcteryx atom and defence mechanisms helion B are runner ups but for price and availability the TLG is better.
MID
Carinthia MIG seems decent but it's cut as a garrison jacket not to fit over gear and doesn't come in mc.
Arcteryx cold wx seems pretty nice as it also has the goretex liner windstopper, but the outer shell seems fragile and it's expensive as fuck.
Otte gear Level 7 jacket maybe but it's on the lighter side.
So yeah idk in general, the arcteryx seems the best one but it's expensive.
HEAVY
In this case I could ditch the multicam as in these temps it's going to be snowy.
ECWCS LVL7 marshmellow jacket, simple as, available, "cheap" (got much more expensive lately).
Otherwise I've seen beyond monster parka or linebacker parka (the normal lenght one not the super long one), or pcu lvl7 jackets from massif l, sekri etc id be curious to see hownthey compare to the ecwcs lvl7 if anyone knows.
Busting out the OG /gq/ armor guide this the classic
>>64008274why spend all that money when you can just buy TAPS and an H harness to go with it? TAPS has a lot of molle too
What are some good mag pouches that can hold both ar and ak74 mags?
Will the crye 152 pouche do the job?
Otherwise I like templars gear pouches with the inserts but idk if they're able to hold both, for the height I could just buy the ak ones and put foam on the bottom if using ar mags but idk abt the mag width and insert compatibility
>>64008936This is a lot less complex than the new /bag/ infographic but it doesn't cover a whole lot of ground. Much easier read but a poorer foundation.
1. 4S17M is fine but it is imperative you buy SAPI and not Highcom's 10x12" shooters to avoid undersized plate shenanigans. The 10x12" is 7.2lb but the 9.5x12.5" SAPI medium is 8.6lb. That's how bad Highcom plays the nominal sizing game for shooters.
2. 4401 never got an NIJ suspension.
3. Blackbeards are good but the supply dried up years ago.
4. Militech is good but lacks any certification.
5. Colossus keeps looking better and better, but lacks certification.
6. 4800LV is a fuck and is often advertised wrong. People treat it like it's a Level IV that just runs hot on BFD, but it's in reality ICW IIIA and needs soft armor behind it to work. Also, it's underbuilt for a IV just like the 4800 and really should be treated as a B-32 API "TSA" like the LTC 28595 - which it mirrors closely on specs.
7. SAS might be a bad call if issues raised last thread are to be believed.
8. Midwest looks good
9. Surplus vests fail to mention the Zylon problem.
10. High end soft armor all looks good.
Brands to avoid is dated but fine.
Overall 6.5/10.
Interesting turn of events from an old listing. Turns out the Diamondback Tactical XSP1012, an old commercial XSAPI, and LTC 28601 XSAPI are the same plate. This also means the 28601 is much older than originally thought. This one is from 2009!
Bad news is that the XSP1012 IIRC is an ICW IIIA plate, so a long-ago deleted Hoplite post may be correct in stating the 28601 is NOT standalone. This also means Apex is wrong... again.
Since the 28601 is now apparently a sixteen year old model, it's basically a REV. A XSAPI but swimmer cut and 0.25lb lighter. In other words, pretty good for 2009.
>>64009054> This also means Apex is wrong... again.Apex wrong about everything all the time.
>>64009096I've updated the infographics to reflect the 28601 is ICW and not standalone in the imgur catalog. I was hoping to not touch them for a while, but I don't want people running it standalone if it ever comes back into stock. This is the fourth or fifth time Apex has been dead wrong about shit he's selling. Also a bit rich to have sold a 16 year old design for $2,950 a set, innit? XSAPIs that fell off a truck rarely exceed $1k a pair.

>>64006738>buy a Glock like a normal personI did that, but still can't find a holster for my 17L and Gen 1 can't take a light or a red dot. Now what?
>>64010754It'll fit just fine in any no-light, no-dot G17/G34 holster with trivial modifications. The tip will poke out the bottom a little, but you're not going to defeat the active retention based on that alone.
>>64008964Because it's a one-and-done purchase that costs less than pretty much any similar American made rig. A TAP is like $50, an H-harness is another $50, then you have to spend extra for whatever pouches you want to add to it, and then you still have to deal with the TAP's janky layout and retention for mags. Flapped double pouches are much better.
If you need to carry a ton of shit on a rig, then maybe the TAP is a better option if money's an issue.

anyone use the unity remora? think about adding a light to helmet, just wonder if its going to stay still and not be loose/wobble when moving
>>64012108I'm
>>64007958 and even though I don't use the Remora model specifically I have been used Unity helmet light mounts for a few years and currently have one on the SOHAH shown on the far right of the lineup in picrel. I used to use their ARC rail to 1913 swivel adapter for both my lids with ARC rails on the left but it became unreliable almost immediately after purchase and my light would shift on me when I would nod my head too fast or jog with it on. The one on the SOHAH is the velco on version because that helmet has no rails and I will not add any on. It also rotates and is way more stable than the ARC one that I was using before (so far anyway). However the original velcro that came on it peeled off immediately when I tried to adjust it after one use and I had to replace their velcro with an aftermarket one that's been holding ever since. As you can see 3 out of 4 helmets I just decided to swap to non rotating affixed 1913 adapters because the first Unity adapter I had was such a pain in the ass. The second one that I'm using now is way more reliable for whatever reason and when I'm shooting with a team it is nice to be able to point my light at the ground without blinding everyone but just like the first one their QC didn't impress me and if there was a different product from another company with a real name attached to it I would have gone with that option first.
>>64008763>>64008774Things going โseriously wrongโ where youโre in two engagements with opposing forces? Alone? Youโd be dead as fuck. Youโre all buying gear for a team sport that you donโt even play. Itโs like obsessing over football helmets when you arenโt even in a hobby league. >>64012214I found a pic of the other Unity mount that I had before I binned it
>>64012269I would have to disagree with you there chief. Just about everything you said there was wrong, and I can tell because of it that you don't actually ever go /out/, or if you do go /out/ it's in a pretty remote location where you don't have to deal with people very often.
>>64012214>>64012308appreciate it, yeah i seen a few other people say this one also moves under alot of movement but just wanted to double check, i use a team wendy helmet/rails w/ peltors and just limited room on the remaining 1913, while i can put a surefire light there now makes it so not able to rotate the peltors as freely, may just try out the m-ax mount at some point
>>64012327Tbh because all my ARC rails have one position that points forward and one that points up I have found it to be best to just leave the light on a static 1913 rail and detach it from the forward position and slide the whole thing into the up position if I feel like I need umbrella illumination (I never need umbrella illumination). It's got the least amount of moving parts so there's very little that can fail and easy to do even when you're wearing the helmet and can't see what you're doing.
That being said I also dont have affixed ear pro since I only wear a lid when I'm doing NVG stuff which isn't that often or urban exploring which doesn't require ear pro.

The closest I've come was accidentally running into a drug deal innawoods between two cars while solo camping. Four people with two cars parked in the woods at night. I thought I saw a deer from a distance with my HMT and it turned out to be an engine block in the trees. Unfortunately I was using my white light on the walk over and they saw it which freaked them out and they started yelling at me. Once I realized they weren't a deer I swapped over to NVG and walked away but they kept driving in circles around the area for a couple hours afterwards. Regardless of the fact there were four of them even if it did lead to some kind of confrontation the fact that I can do what I need to under NVG innawoods puts me at a massive advantage against 4 dudes with one flashlight between them. If this same thing happened during the day I just wouldn't have walked over to the cars parked in the woods and nothing could have happened. None of us want to get shot for no reason.

I'm more into guns than gear so I thought I'd ask here. How do you decide what plate carrier to get? I know I don't want steel plates because of spalling but I don't know about the carrier itself. I am thinking about purchasing one due to the worsening political climate and I think body armor would be nice to have. I live in an urban area around a lot of future doctors so I'd imagine most incoming fire (of it were to happen) would be 7in barrel ar15s and glocks with switches. I already have a pvs14 and a crye night cap but I'm also looking into getting a proper helmet too. Would it be worth getting one of those backpacks that turns into a plate carrier like in John Wick 4?
>>64012803Buy armor first, size the carrier to the armor
Get a brand that's well regarded with the features you want
>Would it be worth getting one of those backpacks that turns into a plate carrier like in John Wick 4?No
>>64012803They pretty much are all gtg ad long as you get them from a real company. I would recommend getting ones that have the ability to have side plates added to them even if you don't own plates. It's something you can expand on later if you want you know?
>>64012753where's the lil feets to go with the lil hands
>>64012803JPC2.0 medium size
>>64006223 (OP)Browning makes the perfect gun that fits this drip. They make an O/U with that pattern too if you live in Bongistan or Straya as well.
>>64012803>How do you decide what plate carrier to get?You basically have to look at the features on offer and how much you're looking to spend if you need to change the features.
Do you just need protection or do you want to have load bearing? Because covert/low vis plate carriers are a thing. But you'd need to throw on a chest rig on top if you ever want to have mags and IFAK at the ready.
Do you want side plates? Because there's multiple kinds of cummerbunds. There's basic elastic straps, there's elastic straps with vertical stitching to create pouches that can only mags and radio, there's ladder style straps with plastic stiffeners running horizontally, etc. Most plate carriers on the market used velcro so you could remove a cummerbund to get in and out but now it's becoming more common to see quick release "tubes".
Do you want to attach pouches to the front via MOLLE or use a placard?
>Would it be worth getting one of those backpacks that turns into a plate carrier like in John Wick 4?It's one of those situations where the final product is a bad backpack and a bad plate carrier. Its use case is to have plainsclothes officers or security details in a crowd and react quickly to an attack. That type of equipment is used by people who know when and where the target for a potential attacker will be, so they'll stand around until a threat arises. If nothing happens they take that pack off and go home.
Using it as a daily carrier to protect oneself from crime is not that useful. You could stick a IIIA panel in a regular backpack or messenger bag you'd use daily anyway and just hold it in front of you if some shit happens if you're that worried.
can a full power laser fry a camera?
>>64012652turn 360 and walk away
>>64013917Yes, dependent on the power, dispersion, and distance of the laser and the specs of the camera. A dazzler (albeit at closer
range due to beam dispersion) or preferably a GBD-III will fry better than a PEQ-15. An IZLID 3-watt has over a hundred times the IR output of a PEQ, but that's a Class IV laser and the most powerful known handheld laser BE Meyers.

>>64014520Well I think you look cool anon :)
>>64014643Looking cool is half the battle.
>>64014628>CR6450SAWell you started off with Tencate, so that's an excellent first step. It's a mid-high-end Boron Carbide + PE "SRT" that's 0.6" thick and weighs 4.3lb for a SAPI medium or 4lb for a nominal 10x12".
Unlike Hesco's U211, this plate can handle 7.62x51 M80. However, it trades multi-hit capacity against this threat versus a typical Level III plate. BUT, it can stop M855A1 and BZ API. That means it has a little more headroom than say, the LTC 19513, and it's both thinner and a lot lighter...
Overall it's a great plate. Competes directly with the LTC 28791, which is slightly heavier and price gouged to fuck ($5000 a set) by Apex, and the VelSys PBZ-SA, which is lighter (4.15lb), thinner (0.52"), multi-hit against ALL listed threats (your plate is only single hit against BZ API per Midwest), but is a bitch to source unless you've got letterhead. The PBZ-SA if and when it's for sale is about the same price.
>>64014612>I have thingNot an argument. That's actually a little microcosm of the whole gear space. I own thing therefore I'm correct.
>>64014630FYI for anyone leery about Jinwudun, they've got an ebay store now. Prices include import fees / duties, so the price is the price per ebay.
Their shit is cheaper on their site and you get a larger selection, but ebay has very good buyer protections - essential when buying B-grade Chinese. These guys are the seedy radical counterpart to the "safe" Militech. Men in skirts with big ass goggles, Level III helmets, and two-piece shoulder armor.

CAB is the non-infantry equivalent for every other MOS except for combat medics, who get a CMB. Fat chicks that fly reapers and drop ordnance get CABs for example.

Alright, I got bored, and I think we can safely put the Hesco 3885 theory to rest. LTC was awarded new contracts by USSOCOM in 2023 (H9240323F0113 & H9240323F0115) for Tactical standalone plates. These are either GEN-6 or GEN-6B. It does not specify whether these are TSA/Overt (example - 28595, GEN-5) or TSA/LTO (example - 28791 GEN-5). These are usually awarded as a pair. TSA/Overt is B-32 API, TSA/Lessthanovert is 2x BZ API / M855A1 with M80 on the side.
Projected weights going off of past TSA iterations are as follows.
GEN-6 Tactical Standalone - 4lb for SOCOM medium swimmer, single-hit B-32 API protection or 2x BZ API. Prior GEN-5B awarded to VelSys is 4.4lb. LTC 28595 (GEN-5) is 4.85lb. GEN-6B would be 3.8-4lb depending on how far along "black side" PE development is. Boron carbide is boron carbide, so unless they've got a new ceramic up their sleeve or some new additives you cannot thin the strike face - the heaviest component. Boron suboxide development has been quiet lately...
TSA/LTO:
GEN-5 plate is the LTC 28791, 2x BZ API, no capability against B-32 API, with multi-hit capacity against M855A1 and other lesser threats. 4.13lb for a swimmer medium. GEN-5B is honestly pretty likely the VS-PBZSA, which by my calcs is 3.9lb for a swimmer medium. GEN-6 is projected 3.7, GEN-6B 3.5-3.6lb.
While this is long and pointlessly autistic, the point in play is that if you wait a year or two, there will inevitably be some seriously gucci shit showing up "surplus." I am cautious on the GEN-6B calculations because I am unaware of any serious ceramic advancements on LTC's side and Honeywell's improvements to spectra shield with the latest 6000 series have only been incremental.
As a particular fellow armor autist would be happy to hear... the 28855 is predictably a phantom. Probably the same situation as the 3885. It is either nonexistent or exists at a level so arcane it will never, ever show up... "second hand" and is therefore functionally nonexistent.
>>64014359Locking your bedroom door when you're out of the house will provide about as much burglary protection as a $100โ200 "safe". Those things are good against curious toddlers and not much else, not even their stated fire rating since cheap "safes" categorically start the test in a cold oven that doesn't come close to replicating the temperature curve of a house fire.
Acceptable theft protection starts at like $1500 for a Zanotti that makes significant compromises in every other dimension, and in general the rule of thumb is that your safe should be worth at least as much as all the stuff it's meant to secure.
If you just want your mom to shut the fuck up about your gun storage situation, what you described is fine, but don't think it's actually a worthwhile security measure.
>>64006707>JPC 1.0lol someone tell him....
>>64014359don't listen to these poor retards, get a quality gun safe when you start collecting good stuff, would say $400-500 minimum for a decent one. When you start getting NV, good optics/guns, etc. then get one. Especially for NFA items since anyone not on your trust shouldn't have free access to them.
>>64014895>If you just want your mom to shut the fuck up about your gun storage situationThis is basically what cheap "safes" are for in a nutshell. If you got family members over it's so twelve year old timothy doesn't try and reenact fortnite with a live firearm.
Defense in depth. Figure out ways to secure the home perimeter and the room where the safe is. Alternatively, use the safe as a decoy and hide the guns in some other location a burglar wouldn't think to look. Nothing too obvious. Good ones know to check behind paintings, behind the couch, under beds, behind dressers, etc. Put $200 cash in the safe or something so they don't immediately suspect the trick.
You need to reduce the amount of time they have to mill around your house. Perhaps having a VERY trustworthy neighbor or relative house sit while you're gone would work. Security systems, cameras. Do not rely on cops actually being able to apprehend them before they leave. However, knowledge that the cops are onto them will limit most burglars to a 10-15 minute window. Make them waste that window as much as possible.

You can usually find them surplus under $300 online. Sizing can be really weird because most cops are either obese or tiny women. So be mindful of that.
>>64018693Always defer to the NIJ CPL Anon. Lots of companies selling Chinese stuff with their brand slapped on claiming it meets NIJ without being on the CPL. Midwest has affordable NIJ certified armor.
Everyone wants to talk gear, clothing etc but no one ever talks about actually having medical supplies past a TQ. No antibiotics, anti virals, pain management tools. Whatโs your plan if you canโt get someone to a hospital and they need stitched or have a bone reset etc?
>pic related is what I started stashing away with a bunch of antibiotics etc.
>>64020410We solved that problem weeks ago, but yeah it seems like tourniquets get all the attention just because they get a special holder
>>64020433>He posted it againI know you're proud of yourself, but you really don't need to post them EVERY TIME someone has a question. This is why you're so insufferable. That and this infographic is shit.
>>64020410Personally I think it's pointless to put together your own stop the bleed or IFAK kit when you have places North American Rescue and Rescue Essentials that have premade kits for various needs that only really end up costing a tad more than making your own kit piecemeal. Just buy the kit that fits your needs best and call it a day. Recommending chest seals and such, even with a disclaimer, to the mouth breathers around here is asking for trouble.
>>64020433This is a pretty good list desu but Iโd add anti virals too. A stash of ketamine is invaluable imo. If you get seriously hurt ketamines a great way to blunt serious pain without risking respiratory depression vs opiates. Even makes me think having some opiates for after is a good idea too
>>64020446If I was the infograph anon why would I have to fetch that pic from Imgur, stupid ass triggered bitch
>>64020484The best solution is to carry around a cartoon doctor's bag full of everything you'd find in a clinic/hospital room/pharmacy

How do you put patches on coveralls for a pilot larp?
>>64020410I was thinking the same thing but how long do antibiotics really last? I'm assuming most people can't hold on to a bottle of pain killers without popping a bunch. Ketamine sounds fun but I'd probably end up killing myself or others with it. I figure amoxicillin and metronidazole are good for most ouchies and tramadol/diazepam would take a lot of suck out of setting a broken bone or deleting a limb but I know fuck all. How am I doing?
>>64020410No meds beyond the booboo kit, if you're leaking I'll patch you up but you gotta suck up the pain or pass the fuck out until you get to a hospital

>>64021149Armor is extremely practical. Its a purely practical item. I think what you mean is, are you likely to need it and does that justify the investment. And that's something only you can answer anon.
>>64021149It's low on the overall list of priorities for most people, but is invaluable in high-risk situations. Better to have and not need than need and not have, especially since the powers that be are trying to ban it.

Fellas, what is the best color for a concealed vest? Not low profile carrier or whatever, but actual concealed vest to wear under a button-up or a light jacket. I got some MBAV panels and cover options are RG, khaki or black.
>>64021149how bad is your area? Anything above III is probably larp, and soft body armor is mostly enough
>>64021799You don't want III, you want RF2 or IV because shitty III will yield to M855. That is, if you're afraid of rifles. Most crime is done with handguns, so IIIA concealed vest is better.

>>64021867post yours angryfag :^)
>>64021943Sure. Idk why youre so toxic. Bad relationship with your dad?
>>64021928Might want to check with the NIJ as to why you've got zero entries on the actual CPL. Those four models also appear to be from applied fiber concepts. While that's all well and good, why isn't this more up front?
>>64021928>>64021935Thanks boys, I was looking at other recommended shit but it's so goddamn expensive and I am most likely never gonna need one again. The only time was a nothing burger at school and realistically I can't see how premium duty operator level shit will help me much more over a basic cheap but not temu vest as long as it'll stop pistol rounds. An active shooter will probably go quantity over quality and the cops hopefully won't light up someone with a staff badge, at least not in my town.
>>64021814Base III is awkward because of the M855 vulnerability. Seconded you want M855, but IV - especially cheap IV, can be excessively heavy and also run shot spacing issues since IV is fundamentally a single hit, not six hit, requirement. The LTC 19513 is perfect for most applications, or if you're strapped Militech RF2.
>>64021958That's a lot of money spent to play pretend army man :^)
>>64021980You forgot to post some gear. Any reason why?
>>64021986It gives you nothing to work with, next trick is to leave you without a reply
>>64021997Bizarre behavior
>>64021971Just a heads up, their plate is the Applied fiber concepts model, weight matches, but on quick inspection I don't see those model numbers from the NIJ entries. Their soft armor, per their site, uses different SKUs. I am also interested in why the RLA buzzword is getting attached ostensibly to soft armor that plenty of other companies are selling. Shop around, you may be able to beat their price.
>>64021997>>64022039You two have literally been going at it for at least an entire day.
>>64022093Yeah im trying to stay on topic so...
Also last thing about Bulletsafe, their business address is a 2201 Heritage Parkway, Mansfield, Texas 76063, which is an events venue. Thought that was kinda funny. It's Sellmark Corporation, which otherwise sells cheap digital night vision and other things, see below:
https://www.reddit.com/r/guns/comments/1ks6x5g/its_time_to_talk_about_the_sellmark_corporation/
>>64022107/gq/ has been off the rails lately. 24/7 seething over inanimate pictures because some anons here need permission to use microsoft paint and make their own, it's hilarious, but getting stale, and also driving away good conversation.
>>64022118Ive been here before them and ill be here after them. I just like to give genuine advice to sincere anons. Idc if youre poorfag or richfag. If I see bad advice ill call you dumb and correct it. More than likely its some underage newfag or yurotrash.
>>64022130And I appreciate sincere feedback on the infographics (I'm that guy, the other guy is not that guy pal). The other guy calling them shit is, well, shitposting. It's funnt but also rather sad that he spent his entire Wednesday on /k/.
Bunkbedguy's posts were used as a reference for the IFAK infographic, which went through an extensive drafting period half a dozen or so threads ago.
Are these infographics perfect? Absolutely not. No infographics are. They serve as a discussion aid and a reference. They are not the bible. I'm still on "break", so if anyone wants to edit or update them, please. You have my permission.
If I like the new ones, they'll go in the imgur.
>>64022148Call me old fashioned but a decently equipped IFAK and a stop the bleed course is plenty for 99.99% of anons. I doubt any anon is going to have access to or the desire to train to be able to perform field surgery or administer certain medications. Unnecessary fluff imo.
So I'm considering two additional armor infographics - namely manufacturer-specific "cheat sheets" detailing entire lineups from Leading Technology Composites and Tencate. People tend to sleep on a lot of their plates, even though they mog Hesco, Highcom, RMA, etc on the regular in a lot of areas, primarily because they do not market well to civs and their naming conventions are... terrible. Tencate is arguably the most advanced armor company in the absence of Ceradyne, and the only major one with zero NIJ suspensions or product recalls.
It doesn't help, however, that Tencate has two lineups. Multi-Light (EU-focused) and Cratus (the CRXXXX plates) - which are US focused. This doesn't count their weird shit, flexible Ceraflex rifle armor and LIBA super-multi-hit plates. LTC is just random numbers with very limited patterns.
>>64022166You're right, hence why the guide doesn't go big into the more advanced topics - and has in bold massive font "take classes and learn."
This is why I'm also not majorly invested in redoing the HF radio infographic. It's on the list but not priority. It's pointless to waste time on niche high-level shit - especially if it needs to be in depth as the ham anons have expressed. I don't know many anons that are legitimately incorporating serious HF kit into their preps. It is extremely powerful in the right hands, but, well, most the people here buy a UV-5R and barely use it.
>>64022093Weird, it seems kinda dodgy like early PSA or something. I reached out and they said they'd give me a discount after showing my staff ID so it seems like they're not as tight an operation but maybe their stuff is getting better. They'll accept a return if its ass too so I'll probably FAFO. I really like the shield idea but only if my work pays for it. Teachers are fucking kleptos so I need something easy to secure and deploy.
Even tho the state has no gun free zones my district is gay about arming teachers. They want a psych eval and tons of training on our dime so I'm wondering if I should just ignore but in this economy I don't want to lose my job. It's probably expected anyone armed to act as security but fuck paying extra for more work, I'd just barricade and only would need a gun if they get in my room. Anyone have suggestions for a hidden but totally secure gun storage option?
>>64022190Sellmark is, per that reddit discussion, the same company that sells Firefield amazon special red dots. I'd avoid.
Shields are not that expensive, just make sure their threat level matches your needs. Also lift some weights if you don't already.

>>64022227Medic won't make it unless he spends AT LEAST five thousand dollars on a thermal drone so he can accurately recce the area ahead and bypass enemy positions while locking in and retreating to his strongpoint.
>>64022231NTA, but it's too single-minded and feels like it came out of 2015 with a limited go-fast mentality. The end user should decide their needs. Infographics should just give viable options.
>>6402222799% if the injuries you get in the field are bumps and scrapes, for which it's fucking worth it to have bandaids and topical antibiotics.

>>64022255Literally all of SOCOM uses that exact mag setup with 3 kydex mag pouches on the plate carrier and 3 ten speeds to plus up to 6 mags on the chest. There's no reason to buy any other variation of pouches.
>>64022337You make an excellent case for putting a diamond on that gear in an infographic. However, anons should have other options as well. For an example of what I mean, 99% of SOCOM uses either LTC 28595s or 28791s. Should anons only gun for those plates?
>>64022351of course, this is /cargo cult general/, after all
>>64022374Based one word response. But in all seriousness, the point I was making is that we aren't SOCOM. Anons' needs are not hyper-optimized towards the sandbox with a high budget.
If anons are loaded and need typicala rifle threat protection, the optimal plates are the VelSys PBZSA (LTO) and the LTC 26310 (Level IV). CR-6450SA is a close second to the PBZSA, 28791 is third place. Even then, many anons need pistol armor, or shields.
Similarly, yes, the pouches you propose are optimal, but for SOCOM. We aren't SOCOM.
>>64022409This isn't /r/tacticalgear in 2019, fool!
>>64022442youre right, it isnt. Its worse
>>64022461Depends. There was a lot of horseshit going around tacgear then, especially with armor (28595 rated for M993...), but more activity. We have the kinks ironed out for the most part but less people to take advantage of that. Gear is also in a better place overall, although if you're just getting into the game you missed out on epic deals. D275s, Blackbeards, tariff and duty free Chinese thermals, Militech, etc.
We'd be in a better place if we ditched the concern trolls, stopped bitching all day about the heckin infographics, and exclusively talked shop like the old days.
>>64022491just bring back the other generals then? /gq/ is kinda tainted permanently but something like /pfg/ could still work. Just be prepared for it to sit on page 8 with low traffic.
>>64022533I'll be honest, we don't have the numbers. An effective split would have to be four ways. gq, pfg, nvg, and bag. The merger was out of necessity.
>>64022545but nu /gq/ is terrrible as a result. Not every topic needs to reach bump limits multiple times a day.
>>64022442>the pouches you propose are optimal, but for SOCOM. We aren't SOCOMFlapped pouches are slow and shit. All other open topped rigid pouches like HSGI Tacos, G Code Scorpions or ITW Fastmags are inferior to KYWIs. Shit like the Spiritus Mk 5 placard or Ferro Dope or Haley Strategic or all these other random velcro sandwich bullshit placards are more expensive and worse than buying KYWIs. There's no fucking point putting them in some gay infographic because they're objectively inferior to just buying fucking KYWIs.
>>64022545Yeah, those threads are distinct enough that they should get their own threads. Sure it won't hit bump limits but they'll get enough traffic. /gq/ now is awful.
>>64022561It's actually pretty good when we talk gear. We're stronger as a big tent than four little generals, three of which drop off page 11.
>>64022567Other people would need that info, meaning the others need to be in there for comparison's sake. RMA makes shitty armor but they're technically still in the armor guide. We aren't only dealing with first time buyers.
>>64022567His point still stands though. We're not SOCOM. The chances of ever actually having to use your gear is slim. The chances you'll ever need to min/max your reload speed is slimmer. Any potential conflict that you'd be involved in would more than likely look like the Syrian stuff going on right now, than you kicking in doors with your nvgs, indexing mags while you clear houses.
>>64022570Nvg and pfg regularly died at 80-100 posts. No-go. Bag will die faster because all the old guard is gone.
>>64022567>Flapped pouches are slowflapped pouches mean you are never going to accidentally lose a mag while moving around
and once you get use to them they arent that slow. definitely slower than no flap but fast enough,
>Coincidentally, when reddit migrated to /gq/, it turned to shit
>>64022612What's wrong with that? Who dies and made you queen of /k/?

>>64022545>>64022533nigger/gq/ fucking sucks, I miss pfg and nvg. Fuck this gay ass board.

>>64022581>other people should make stupid purchases because muh freedomI unironically believe that there should be only one handgun on earth, the Glock 19. Literally everything else can go out of production for all I care, there's no reason for any other handgun to exist they're all objectively inferior from a cost benefit ratio.
>>64022590Explain to me why you need shit gear because you're not SOCOM. Why are you frothing at the mouth at the thought of me suggesting people buy a $67 esstac placard instead of a fucking $139 Unobtanium Gear SLED V2 placard with 7 months wait time or a $185 Kommandostore Pattern 84 mag placard. >but muh $13 surplus eagle flapped pouchesshit and inferior to kywis
>>64022653If mods would just take care of the off-topic shitters, yeah /gq/ would immediately improve. GL with that.
>>64022658Is there a way we can get them to move on that or are the new jannies just like the old ones?
>>64022657Or because they have niche reasons for their options. Cost benefit alone we'd all be rolling Militech plates!
>>64022666They don't actually care about board quality, they only ban you for using slurs or homophobia. I know its a very old expression, but this place is now reddit. Im not being ironic.
