Could've just said Verhoeven's problem is that he is a moral bankrupt who thinks good is evil and evil is good, actually.
It's not a unique phenomenon, same with Watchmen, where Alan Moore intended for Rorschach to be a cringe far-right chud, so he gave him cringe far-right chud qualities such as competence, integrity, and conviction, and then had a melty when the audience saw Rorschach as the only good person in the story.
Same with Breaking Bad, where Skyler stands out as a uniquely evil monster in a show about drug cartels and neo-nazis (while neo-nazis are portrayed as bizarrely sympathetic).
Some media creators are just plain evil and have no self-awareness that orcs, demons, and alien bugs in the stories they grew up with are a metaphor for real-life people like them.
