The Bible was written long ago.
Some parts were in Hebrew.
Some parts were in Greek.
But in Europe, the Church used a Latin Bible.
Most people did not know how to read Latin.
So they asked their priests to read it for them.
And the boss of all priests was the Pope in Rome.
His name is Pope Leo the Tenth. Hi Leo!

This is Martin Luther.
He is a theologian. (That means he studies the Bible.)
Martin reads the Bible carefully.
He finds things that don’t match what the Pope says.
Uh oh.
Martin makes a list.
It is a very long list.
Ninety-five things long!
He nails them to the church door.
Clunk! Clunk! Clunk!
Uh oh, Martin. That is not good for the door.
