Chairs have an association with judgement. Naughty children are told to sit still in the chair and accept a verbal beratement by adults, and powerful adults sit on judge's panels or even thrones to dispense orders and decrees. So chairs may be a very important type of Darkner afterall.

Note that Chairiel doesn't grow any bigger as a "Darkner", just changes to look like a throne, and the sofa only grows a little bit. Normally a Darkner that grows a lot in the Dark World is less important than one that stays close to proportion. So unimportant walls and floors grow massive, but some items like the Silver Watch remain a watch. Chairiel may be very important.
