I thought about it a bit more and wow, the more I go back to it the more SOUL acting the way it does being a way to "exploit bugs and remnant code" makes sense. Think about it, specifically the egg puzzles. I know this is a 2d game but Queen specifically references "clipping" in chapter 2. What do we do to get the first two eggs? Repeatedly spam left and right to cycle rooms until we get clipped into the Tree Room which obviously is remnant/buggy data since the Man disappears after we talk to him.
Also, the Chapter 3 Egg is literally just us using ACE via a convoluted series of steps to access the ESCAPE code from Undertale which apparently leads to somewhere very old.

At one point, the whole world looked like MANCOUNTRY. What does that mean? Hell if I know.
However, one of the Rudinns says that "copies are monochrome" and then "colored in with care," and MANCOUNTRY is a Game Boy greenish monochrome 8-bit world with binoculars that show you gray grass.
"Dinosaurs appeared" and "an ice age" might be Susie and Noelle. There's a constant water = depths = darkness motif, so maybe the Earth being covered in water could be the roaring or some other Dark World catastrophe? But then, the forgotten man would have to have seen it before. Another mystery.
There's been some hints that Susie was not supposed to be the intended second hero, what with Gerson calling her the Dragon that the heroes stop in chapter 1 of Lord of the Hammer. If the dinosaur isn't supposed to still be around, then things are certainly mixed up.
In any case, this is the only place left where he can talk. Since he seems to be tied to Kris's past, being hidden away in some kind of hidden manifestation of their inner child or whatever the hell is going on makes sense.

Honestly I dont think it means they outright have the ability to SAVE or RESET, but it definitely has determination on some level. It's a good explanation for why it has a self heal, it's literally pulling the "But it refused" trick. Maybe it's just the one titan and the fact a titan born from the Roaring Knight gets imbued with Determination is meant to be foreshadowing, or maybe the act of making a fountain within a fountian requires a lot more will and determination than making a fountain in the light world. Then you'd have to explain why it does not actually save or reset at any point in the fight, the only ability of determination it demonstrates is refusing the die. It's not like Toby's incapable of doing that for a battle, he made omega flowey, and I doubt we'll see that specific titan again (or if we do it'll be pretty lazy since we know there are meant to be multiple). It feels pointless to argue abilities it could have outside what was demonstrated when it already had a full boss fight, including it's defeat. Why would Toby intend for these abilities it's never going to use? I doubt its coming back either, we know theres multiple titans so reusing one even with newer abilities would just be lazy and kill the hype of another titan fight happening. Sometimes the simpler answer is the right one even with Tobysoft, it's just a manifestation of it's limited determination and the real question should be about why or how it has that

An important detail in all of this is that Chara and Frisk are just two out of *eight* children who all fled human civilisation to the lonely mountain, over what is implied to be a long period of time, even a century or more. The most likely variant is that they're all runaways from the same community based close to Mt. Ebott, and the implication in turn is that this community is messed up in subtle and dangerous ways. The kids all seem fairly normal on the surface but have concealed glitches, and the community which Asriel met seemed normal enough for him to not attack them or be afraid/repulsed by them.

So in summary, the Undertale human communities of the rough present are subtley fucked up. Compare this with two details in Deltarune:

1) Hometown is a monster community that seems very wholesome and normal on the surface, and is 90%, but there's some shady stuff going on down below

2) Kris is strongly aversive to other humans, and can barely stand to see them in a book (could be related to childhood trauma as Toriel used the specific book a lot in raising him)

There's clearly something going on here, and how much of it is a monsters vs. humans thing, and how much of it is a surface community vs underground community thing is being played with by the narrative. Kris has all the hallmarks of a runaway from Undertale, but twice over - from both his birth species AND his foster community. (how he even came to be adopted by the Dreemurrs is itself a dark cloud hanging distantly above the plot)

Going through the game and reading the dialogue carefully, I've deduced a few things.
1. Kris wants nothing to do with Noelle. When Susie asks who you'd rather take to the festival, if you choose Noelle, Susie will comment that Kris spoke with a strained and confused tone.
2. Only Susie indicates what Kris would actually say, rather than what WE would have Kris say. Telling Ralsei that WE want to take Noelle to the festival doen't reveal much, but Susie always reveals what responses seem "forced" or unnatural. Example in point 1 and in the Cold Place in Ch3, if you talk to Susie, she comments about how "stupid, creepy and fake" Kris sounds when answering either

She doesn't say anything about how strangely Kris responded. Rather, she talks about how they could've been friends a long time ago, which I think it far more interesting than the other responses. Similar things happen around pianos. When Kris (WE) "play the piano" in the hospital in Ch2, Susie laughs it off like Kris was joking about knowing how to play piano, then thinks to herself about Kris having a pissed-off look on their face. This tone continues win Ch4 when WE choose who to pray for (Noelle and Asriel are half-assed prayers but the prayer for Susie is sincere, Kris reacts violently to themself if WE answer "I won't play piano again").
Just thought that was interesting, going through the game trying to know what Kris wants.

Then there's also seemingly that Kris opened the portal to get Undyne and Toriel at once. Tenna was concerned about this, and then there's the weird code that if Toriel is enabled, Noelle turns into the ice mage, and Dess turns into a shadow creature and is killed by 8-bit Kris.

I think through being in contact with the caller he gained a higher level of sentience which allowed him to innovate and exist as something more than what a regular addisons can be. When he got cut off, his ability for abstract thought went *poof* as well. But he still has his memories so all he can do is ramble like a madman that knows too much but not enough at the same time. It lines up with his goal of reaching [Heaven] which is implied to be the real world, and what he perceives as the highest level of reality.

Finished all 4 chapters last week and started hunting for those extra stories, liked all of them but I'm surprised those aren't in the game considering they have important characterization and backstory. I don't think adding a couple of flashbacks across the chapters would ruin the pacing, since it's an rpg and all.
My favorite ended being the one about Kris and the piano. It gives a lot of weight to his moments in ch4

Something to note:Spamton describes his eyes having been burned by light at some point.
The Organikks in the church wear headdresses to blind themselves and commune with darkness.
Both seem to have communed with the depths however.
The Depths exist both above, between, and below, the dark and light worlds

You know having Asgore, Carol and another human (maybe Kris' parent) having been revealed to have done this whole adventure when they were kids would be really interesting, especially if they had decided to not do the final tragedy which messed things up. It'd explain Asgore's opinion of Carol, and would tie into the idea of the prophecy being eternally retold.


It could be even bigger if this was just a known secret among some adults that this happens every generation. It could even be that Kris' adoption was part of the plan for this, or that they tried to make Kris, Dess and Asriel do the prophecy for their generation but things got fucked up and now all this scheming is trying to have Kris, Susie, and an artificial third party do it in order to stop the world from ending or whatever happens when the prophecy doesn't get fulfilled.


Susie realizing that she's not actually special, she's filling in for someone else, and most of the people she's learned to trust are in on it would be a very powerful scene.
