It's even more embarrassing because making the characters "tOTallY LegAL NoN-didDy ePSTEin" should have given them free rein to do whatever the hell they want with them. Flash their titties, smack their butts, rip their clothes off, just sex the fucking hell out of them. But they're not, these "legal adult" characters are more chaste than the teenagers in the Arland games and Blue Reflection. Which shows you it's not about the age of the characters, it's a movement against straight male fanservice in general. It's Twitter shitlib DEI politics. "Muh pedophilia" is just the latest justification they're using since "objectification" and "male gaze" got discredited outside of the most deeply penetrated circles.

Anime aesthetics have always been a part of JRPGs going back to games like Ys in the 90s, and games like Neptunia are simply an outgrowth of that. It is small wonder that Frogpredation 33 is attracting all the people that hate JRPGs; because it's a "J"RPG stripped of everything that normgroids would think is "cringe" or "icky".
