I see a sport as being a gentlemaly test of one's self against one's self and/or one's environment. Auto driving, aviation, shooting, archery, hunting, fishing, horseback riding, running, cycling, swimming, skiing, sailing, rock/ice climbing, etc.
Of course, there can be competition between gentalmens' ability to perform these activities, but they are intrinsically challenging endeavors.
I will make allowances to include martial disciplines like pugilism and fencing as sports, but otherwise, I consider games things that require a minimum of two people to properly conduct. Of course, you can shoot hoops by yourself or kick goals alone or hit a tennis ball against a wall, and perhaps conducting these activities by one's self may be considered sport, but such a large element is missing without the competition between individuals or teams that it isn't really the same activity.
