TIL a new classification for something that sits between a tank and an IFV.
Personally I don't get it. Less armor and thus more susceptible to being destroyed but carries a 75-95mm cannon? Maybe ditches the turret all together like the Soviets did with ASU-85?

Not going to second guess thousands of engineers, designers, and military leaders, but sometimes military weapons system design feels like splitting hairs to me. Also the wiki article makes it sound like only US still actively develops "assault guns"?
