I don't think any of these games did the same things that Halo did as a whole. Halo incorporates many features and does so in a polished package in 2001.
I was delving into other FPS games up until when Halo was released. None of these great and influential games like HL1, UT, Quake, Goldeneye/Perfect Dark were able to do what Halo did overall. Like story, AI, world/levels, weapons, vehicles, multiplayer and soundtrack.
Again for a 2001 game. Halo also feels like it is a PC game (as was originally intended) rather than a console FPS, because it does so many things.
