They didn't go into that desensitization in videogames though. The game had zero issue with your actions up to that point when you were shooting what it's narrative called the bad guys.
It did a hamfisted forced "do X to continue" and then it directly chided the player for continuing to play their game as that was the ONLY choice other than an (unintentional and ironically justifiable in a court martial given what the characters knew) war crime, not the character or the culture or fictional violence or anything like that.
If you want to claim you're not attacking the player, you should have your game repeatedly talk directly to the player with your polemic,
