Anyone make an ARAM account before? How did you do it?

I wanted a small pool for ARAM but the new player rewards include a few champs. Some of them are permanent shards that sit in the crafting inventory (so I can scrap them), but others are just getting automatically unlocked for some reason. Now I have a Lulu and Illaoi that I can't refund. Can I stop unlocking extra characters?
