Ironically I think that was the same time I noticed GW was getting tired of writing Orcs, both Fantasy and 40k. You could feel it in the writing.

Not to mention Black Orc Warbksses suddenly becoming the WHF Worf/jobber. Gorthor even had an add on to his fluff where he kills one.
