The Abyss of Obtenebration is a different realm altogether from the realm of Oblivion - this one is more closely related to Wraiths than anything shadow-based really.

Abyss of Obtenebration was said to be a semi-sentient realm that ultimately wanted to drown the world in darkness, blot out the sun and Oblivion is just... Oblivion? I guess, I'm not familiar with it.

The thing is, the more Obtenebration was used, the more it left a mark on the vampire - going so far as to make other vampires feel unsettled by them, not to mention the regular living world.

They appear similar, but IMO something more unique was lost with them changing this shit from Obtenebration to Oblivion.
