RDR2 is saddled down with too many extra characters that only exist to eat time away from the gang members I actually wanted to get to know.
>don't get to know Bill
>don't get to know Javier
>don't get to know the Reverend
>instead Sadie, Micah, the native/black guy I actually like but forget the name of, and some other camp randos with no real providence suck up all the air and add pretty much nothing
RDR2 has a stupendously strong start but it starts falling apart in chapter 3 and faceplants hard in the final acts. Micah being the rat should have been a damn red herring and Sadie just shouldn't have existed. And I say this as someone who LOVES raspy-voiced gingers. God, she sucks.

A more mild criticism: the writers have no idea how to actually write religious characters and it shows. The nun woman talks like a Unitarian and her and the Reverend's monolog to Arthur suck (and it not being the Rev in the 'good' ending for Arthur is bad too). I was also disappointed every time Rev wanted to talk only for Arthur to get sidetracked two sentences into the conversation with some other bullshit busywork job.

Pretty fuarking game though. Can't fault Rockstar there.

I did tell them that the giant crabs were extremely vulnerable to being knocked prone (they take a -4 AC penalty instead of -2) but it just kinda didn't happen. Although I'm a bit surprised the Fighter didn't try tripping or anything. He's played the system a lot more than I have and was actually running our previous campaign. I get they're only level 2 but he definitely has more to do than just full round attacking.

Credit where it's due, they did get creative during the last fight of the night with a stick of dynamite and the kineticist's fire powers but the bastard trilobites crit succeeded their reflex save anyway.

I think in the trilobite's case it's mostly due to luck and their reaction. When they take damage they get a +2 to AC until their next turn and that brought them up to 18 (PWL) on a night when everyone was rolling dogwater. The giant crabs, which were actually somewhat dangerous, tended to get bodied (except for the first one, which almost strangled the wizard to death).

I'm using some kholos as their final encounter for this little dungeon and those guys should be a little more glass cannon-y. I guess we'll see how that goes.
