wait did you expect the title character of the weekly shonen jump manga not to be the most popular by far? yugioh hasn't had a relevant manga since 2004. Also the V Jump audience only buys the magazine for the promo card, the vast majority probably watched maybe one or two of the shows. there's a reason this poll had no bearing on any decisions with the anime.
