The original meaning of Statue Of Liberty was GOING to be at Suez to show how Whites were bring light and learning to the darker part of the world. When that install didn't happen, it was to remind Americans that:

1)Unlike their rivals in the UK, France was, like the USA, a Republic, with rights, not a bunch of Subjects of a despot.
2)Also that it was France that was the real reason USA was able to break free and become a Greek/Roman style Republic (even though France was despotic as UK in 1776).

Nothing about the two real intended meanings of the SOL is about turning the USA into the world's toilet. Just the opposite, in fact.
