I personally think the mace needed a little something extra to be fun to use, though I also think the same thing for the sapphire wand. Baratus' fists are quite good because they hit hard and landing the combo finisher is very satisfying. I also agree with the rest of Parias' arsenal being really good otherwise.
This new shield is way too fucking good though, and Baratus and Daedolon didn't get anything cool.

I disagree with frozen enemies no longer blocking more frost shard projectiles being a bad thing, because all they've done is remove potential tedium of having to deal with either swapping weapons to shatter frozen enemies, or just waiting around for them to break on their own. it still has that weird quirk of firing one big projectile that fragments into the shards though, which forces you to stand at the right distance to get the most of the attack. Or you just get up close and give them the Coldfinger.
