here's another test of the major models: writing something in cormac mccarthy's style
this one is much harder, so there is a bigger difference in the results. the difficulty is that cormac mccarthy uses next to no punctuation (even for dialogue) and mostly uses the structure and pacing of his sentences to separate things.

pretty noticeable gap between opus and the others. opus very clearly grasps how to write within his unusual style without running into roadblocks. it produces the most structured and unambiguous writing, which is hard in this style. it artfully separates dialogue and action without any punctuation. it has several memorably creative lines. sonnet also does a good job but isn't as creative.

sonoma sky (which is probably a new Grok snapshot) is almost incoherent and doesn't understand how to structure sentences to make them easily digestible without commas or quotations. GLM 4.5 is also bad and doesn't understand it, simply mixing the unpunctuated dialogue right in with the action crudely.

gemini is ok but mostly omits dialogue (rather than skillfully including it and demarcating it with context) and also makes some ambiguous sounding run-on sentences here and there.

k2 is ok structurally but the thoughts/ideas are retarded (millenial quip dialogue + it thinks the user is german instead of asuka)

deepseek is okay but seems literally insecure about what to write. i mean it really didn't write much. not very creative.
