This. Communism removes the carrot entirely from the carrot and stick dynamic, only keeping the stick. By definition, communism fundamentally can never be anything else than a constant state of fear and misery, where the only reason you do something is to not be violently punished. There is no reward for work, only brutal beatings for not doing so well enough, and since communism removes every single metric that could be used to accurately measure what outputs should be reasonably expected, this invariably leads to unhinged incompetent bureaucrats who never held a shovel or seeds in their hands to decide what agricultural production should be expected of a farm, brutally murdering millions of farmers when those impossible demands aren't met.
The obvious solution is National Socialism, it's factually what everyone thinks about when they say they want "reasonable capitalism/free market". Maximization of individual freedom but without the possibility of that freedom harming the well-being of the group.
