Maria hadn't been featured heavily in anything for 20 years, you're a fool if you didn't see this coming the moment they revealed Maria in the trailer. A relationship similar to that of real siblings was not how Maekawa intended Shadow and Maria to be seen.
"Death of the author" is disrespectful, cringe, and you're most likely a rival shipper who wants a good excuse to pretend Maria never existed in Shadow's life. You're upset the real Shadow is not a generic self-insert vessel like in your shipping fanart and porn. It's the same story every time.
You can like that sort of thing. That's not the issue. It's alright to enjoy shipping fanart or whatever odd stuff's on rule34 today. Even if the inaccuracies are annoying to me, I understand that not everyone dedicates their time to researching a fictional cartoon hedgehog.
But you don't stop there at a detached hypothetical you enjoy for fun. You start demanding the actual character be overwritten and changed so he doesn't break your immersion. You start complaining when the character exhibits the traits he's had for two decades. You start attacking or dehumanizing others for liking the character as his creators intended. That's when we have a problem. I love Shadow more than anything, and I love him just as he is. I take offense to you thinking Shadow's own will or his love for Maria is an issue, and it's highly ironic to me that people like you have the same mindset as Shadow's in-universe villains.

>"If only his love Maria were erased, Shadow would do what I want."

Of course he did. He didn't know that Chaos Control could warp, he didn't know the meaning behind Shadow's name, and he didn't know that the Biolizard was Shadow's prototype. Why would he know about non-essential dialogue in a 20 year old game from Charmy of all characters?
