Another foid here. I wasn’t a follower of Charlie's and I generally don't care about political podcasters.
From what I've heard, I disagree with some of Charlie's views and agree with others. But what matters is that he had the right to express those views, even the views I find offensive, dumb, or callous.
His murder and the celebration of his death deeply saddens me, not because I loved him, but because of what it represents. Charlie aimed to improve lives through debate and deepen understanding of the human condition by challenging ideas on stage. Whether or not his ideas were right is irrelevant. In a struggling country, communication is vital, and his murder just obliterated any chance of that happening.
Regardless of how bad you think he was, his death has only caused more suffering. Many peoples' hearts are filled with sadness, anger, and a lust for blood. Excusing murder over statements that you can literally choose not to listen to fuels a slippery slope that ultimately leads to a society where no one, including yourself, can safely share ideas.
I don't want that world, so I support his right to criticize me and my groups.
