So here's what you should know about factory striders. First off the game fucking lies, or at least isn't sufficiently detailed, when they say that weapons have "light, medim, and heavy armor penetration". Armor, and armor penetration are integer values. Tanks for example mostly have level 5 armor. If your AP value exceeds the armor level, then you do full damage. If it matches it, then you do 65% damage. If it is loser then you do no damage. If the attack strikes at an extreme glancing angle, then AP value can be reduced.
When attacking factory striders, there are a lot of ways to interact with them but IMO these are the most important bits.
>if you don't think that you can meaningfully damage a FS, then consider attacking the gatling gun "fangs" on the head. They are armor level 3. In game terms you can attack them with "medium armor pen" weapons. They are immune to explosive damage. These fangs are extremely deadly, but the FS is largely toothless once you destroy them.
>the "Eye" is vulnerable to anti-tank weapons like the EAT and recoiless rifle. It is armor level 4. The "eye" is actually an inner head assembly that is surrounded by an armored helmet. This inner assembly is attackable from the sides, but the most prominent hole in the armor is from the front around the glowing red "eye". The recoiless rifle can kill an FS with one hit to the eye, but other AT weapons need 2 hits.
>the feet are another armor level 4 weakpoint. It's actually a leg assembly and you can attack the knee joints, but the feet are most exposed. Each leg has its own HP. Two AT rockets to the same foot will kill it.
>the underbelly is an armor level 3 weakpoint. Each door has its own HP, so concentrate fire. This is the FS's most vulnerable point, but it is hazardous to get into position to exploit it.
