It depends on the ending, if there's something interesting that Splat! shows is that Ashely has a stronger survival instinct than Andrew does. Andy has a secret death wish which may be why he doesn't plan more than he needs to (despite also being obsessive and neurotic) because he secretly wants to be caught and pay for his crimes. I think his need to keep Ashley safe is the only thing keeping him from willingly turning himself in or offing himself in some dark alley.
