I definitely felt after The Nightmare Spirit that Hilda would make a better Marra than Frida, what with her being near-fearless and all and liking to scare David. Like when they said Frida is a better witch. I guess Hilda is only held back from that clique because she'd not entirely friendless while either David or Frida or Alfur are around.
