While I'll agree the Iron Throne in the tv show was meh, the throne we get in ASOIAF art is _way_ to big and would have been really awkward.
KING: "and so I decree..."
EVERYBODY: "what?"
KING: "I said, I decree..."
EVERYBODY: "your grace, we can't hear you way down here."
KING: "I DECREE THIS THRONE IS WAY TOO FUCKING BIG!"
