Get them to learn some basic phrases like thank you, excuse me, sorry, please, etc. If you've been doing your nip reps then you can help them throughout the trip, otherwise you can always whip out Google Translate and go back and forth. If you're planning on playing mahjong just be prepared to get turned away at any parlor that allows gambling. No-rate parlors like Bellbird, JPML Dojo, Majaan Zoo, M-League Stadium, etc. are typically more accommodating to both foreigners and players that are new to IRL play. Other "Healthy Mahjong" parlors might take you in but they're filled with old people.
