I mostly agree. I got into Magic around whenever Theros came out and there was definitely a huge drop off from BFZ onward that kept getting worse until sometime after Modern Horizons 2 (wasn't playing at that point, but people told me Kamigawa Neon Dynasty was when the game started feeling better, at least until Sheoldred came around). I've met and played with various veterans of the series and played with old decks they either played in the 90s or the 2000s standard (including an affinity deck someone brought to a pro tour), and it was a really fun experience. Kamigawa/Ravnica-standard in particular was way more fun than I thought it would be, at least compared to the powerlevel of the cards.
I think the game is overall heading in a much better direction than it has been in the past, which feels weird to say considering all the gross decisions WotC has been making lately, but it was enough to pull me back in. Assuming they can ban at least Cauldron or Vivi and prevent future cards like them from taking over standard (fingers crossed), then the game will finally be fun to play again. It's definitely not the game it once was anymore, but the core mechanics are still there and there's still a lot of creativity that can go into deckbuilding.
