It could've worked, but there were definitely MANY things going against it:
>Sony dumped the project on an indie studio with barely any budget
>They couldn't get the 3rd party characters they wanted due to expenses and timing (Crash, Spyro, Cloud, Snake, Lara, OG Dante, Hayabusa, etc...)
>Even 1st party characters had some hassle, which is why there's 2 Coles and no Team ICO characters
>The game didn't have a unified art direction, which made characters stand out haphazardly
>The only way to KO opponents was by using supers
>They added a combo system to the game, which would be neat but...
>THEY ADDED A COMBO SYSTEM TO A GAME WHERE THE ONLY WAY TO KO WAS BY USING SUPERS
If Sony actually gave a shit about most of their older 1st party IPs and spent the money to license the right 3rd party IPs, then maybe PSASBR could've been amazing, but all they care about now is flinging money at movie games and failing live services.
