Despite claiming to be postmodernists and/or cultural relativists, they strongly believe in a 'true' interpretation of everything and like the psychological bandwidth to realize there are people who don't agree with their ethics and ignore arguments they find to be facile or not persuasive. Sometimes it's just ineptitude, too, like in the SST film where the bugs are displayed as evil and belligerent unironically.
