Nah I mean it, there is such a thing as pure sacrifice. Where the person freely chooses it, full well knowing there is no repayment, no satisfying feeling, perhaps even death itself to pay. And they do it not out of self-service, but out of pure service for somethig greater than himself. It is to take someone’s suffering from them and to carry it on your shoulders painfully so that they may live. The greatest form of this is to even do this for someone you hate, or someone who hates you, someone you initially think does not deserve a thing. Because then it becomes 100% selfless, the trifecta of love becomes completed: Mercy, long-suffering, redemption.

Go and try that out, in fact just even mention the idea of forgiving or loving the enemy and watch people lose their minds. It’s the hardest love to achieve.
