contrived is this context is 'forced' it's not something that you feel is naturally written into the story it's put there to sell to fujos. I'll take after god here for the example. the character i ship together have a history together and the writing shows they care about each other. it isn't some throw off panel that is just meant to sell off the ship. Th overall story is great and interesting too.
