Further, I wasn't particularly fond of BN4 locking a lot of chips I enjoyed behind the retarded dark chip system - stuff like Anubis etc required you to use lame-ass dark holes, or become a junky. I think there was a navicust program that also enabled it, but I didn't wish to compromise my grid just to use a flavourful chip.
>BN5 consolidated the lamp chips into ElemRage, which I guess was kind of cool? I miss my little lamp buddies. Seeing returning viruses like Powie, and BugTank was nostalgic, but the Elemental Seed chips were what I took interest in - being able to manipulate the opponent's field with a capsule of lava was cool, but I lamented the loss of the full-field chips to benefit myself. Skully & Pulsar chips also caught my interest, but overall, I didn't feel particularly engaged with BN5's folder building. Guardian returns, Heroswrd still MIA.
>BN6, I didn't feel too invested in; I remember I used stuff like BigBomb & DolThdr because they were simple, strong chip with a wide range of effect. Chips like Guardian returned to being Standard chips instead of Mega, but you were still limited to how many copies you could use by their memory usage, and I don't think I liked that. Wait, did Heroswrd never return? wtf. At least Sanctuary is back
Throughout the series, I've used a lot of stuff beyond what I've mentioned (Napalmman & Airman saw a lot of play in BN2, for example), but I've tried to keep navichips to a minimum, due to how much churn is involved in the cast. Statistically, something like 'Guardian' (tl;dr answer) is probably the standout for me, because being able to slap down a funny little jizo statue in an opponent's attack, and have their entire crew smote by the divine is simple, and effective.
I never learned how to employ VarSwrd until I replayed the games as an adult, and the soulful alphabet soup formula was lost. I was able to learn the value of new chips from a different perspective, however.
