one is kinda cutthroat. not cedh by any means but none of my decks stomp there and we agreed to do 3s without game changers. very interactive but can't really keep up with real bracket 4 I feel
but the other is upgraded precons and some combo decks. I just finished switching this deck up a lot. This list is focused on the yard. Also its a solid 4 power level wise. I havent actually played this list yet but I expect its going to pop off.

Exalted Sunborn is op since it doubles your treasures.
There are a ton of stax cards that play well (Drannith Magistrate, Grand Abolisher).
Honestly there are so many solid cards in Warrior, Wizard, Rogue, Cleric in orzhov its hard to go wrong. Nadiers Nightblade prob always include. Soul Warden is good.

100%, the deck functions well as a rakdos deck but would be significantly better with just about any other general

Between this and my Shiko & Narset curses deck, I'm starting to think niche control builds with poor wincons are my favorite way to play. It lets you sit down at a table with poor players and even at your sweatiest they'll still stand a chance.

I don't know what it is about this deck in particular that feels so novel playstyle-wise, but it's one of my favorite this year. Blew my store credit on a

I wanted a Gyruda deck that insta won via mill by putting in as many copy effects as possible and looping. I found that having 26 copy cards that are useless before turn 5/6 makes a lot of dead draws and even when it does chain off its boring to just mill 4 cards at a time until the cycle breaks

I'm at an impasse here even after watching probably dozens of hours of magic shit on youtube and my problems are manifold. I struggle to see productive interactions between cards besides the obvious ones so I don't know how to build a multi-card engine outside of having it explicitly told to me. I don't like dedicated tribal commanders or other ones where the whole game plan is basically written on the card (e.g., Aesi), but if there's no obvious synergy with some kind of archetype it's hard to come up with good subthemes that fit naturally into the deck. I like niche interactions and cool gimmicks KCI and Divining Top are some of the neatest cards in the game to me but I hate the idea of playing solitaire and get anxious if my turn drags on from my indecision. I tried playing my most tuned "bracket 3" deck against some friends' actual bracket 3 decks recently and it felt like I'd just piled up random bulk and called it a deck.

I'm mostly just venting but if you guys have any advice or can recommend a commander who'll help me learn to brew better it'd be really appreciated.

My melek izzet paragon deck, which is mostly the otter deck with some lands and all the otter tribal stuff swapped out for more aggressive spells and scry/surveil. I also added Sensei's Top (proxxied on a sticky note of course) because I feel my commander is bad enough that Top is a fair card to run.

The maybe board is something I struggle with because I would like to make an aggressive "kill you with unblockable commander damage in 2 attacks" and use lots of copied pump spells on melek, but at the same time most of my cards are instant/sorcery cast triggers giving me tokens or pinging.
Do I have too much scrying? Do I need fewer creatures? What are some GOOD red pump spells or blue evasion that I can use on melek or another beatstick? Are cards with power equal to the instants/sorceries in my graveyard noob-bait?

I don't think I have many pet cards aside from maybe swiftfoot boots because my commanders are pretty important and expensive to cast.

Take my old Rorix deck for example. On edhrec the majority play him as dragon tribal, not only is that stupid but its boring. You can take one slightly longer look at the card and realize that giving him doublestrike makes him a 2 shot. Doubling damage also does. Giving him both is a oneshot. So I built a deck with cards that also cared about damage doublers and doublestrike. Its not a super unique deck but it takes at least some thought.

My LGS charges for bracket 2 and 3 commander nights, but there are no prizes. Instead you just get the money back as store credit.
Is this unusual for EDH? I have no other frame of reference.

Trust me when I say there is no fun ways to play the deck. I've tried building and playing the deck with a for-fun angle and nobody buys that shit or they get real tired of your shit.
I won't pretend like I don't have to read every card in the player's hand and then figure out what I'd like to do. It slows the game down to a ton and it wastes a bunch of the table's time. I guarantee that in a neutral gamestate you go for the player with the largest number of cards in their hand which feeds into this problem.
You might think you have an encyclopedic knowledge of the game until you have to actually perform.

Also the car does not have the color fixing capabilities that a lot of steal cards have. You will be dependent on having a source of color fixing or dropping lands of the proper color from opp's hands. Which a smart player will attempt to deny you and leave tapped lands for you specifically in their hand to waste your time (and the table's by effect).

I've been to a few LGSs that have this kind of policy to charge entry to casual nights without prize, but it's maybe 1 in 6 stores. I personally think this isn't too egregious the way they're doing it since they're effectively giving you money back but the money is tied up in the shop. And how far that store credit goes can really make or break this being worth it. Like if the store has massive upcharges on stuff then that money is now just worth less, on top of stuff being priced predatorily.
IE if they're charging say $7 for a drink that you can buy at a corner store for $3 and the entry was $5, do you see 2 problems here?

Don't built them. I recently scrapped a Sen Triplets deck because it was more fun in my head than in reality. In practice, it's a slow bad deck, it's not fun for anyone (including you), you'll become the archenemy, and you'll have to think hard every turn, playing cards you don't know. Also, if you play against shit decks, you'll steal shit cards and the whole experience will be miserable.

My lgs doesnt charge for edh ever. Their regular fnms (usually standard constructed or limited) that attract a tiny fraction of the edh player base are costed at around ten ausbucks which gets you a booster or two usually unless you win it and you'll get an extra booster or come in the shitter ranks where you get nothing but a consolation promo that they have lying around

My LGS has the following rules.
>$12 entry
>no brackets
>only rule is no infinites
>you automatically get two boosters of your choice when you leave
>if you win your pod, you get another booster
>winners of their pods are pod in a winners pod
>each person you knock out of this pod gets you another booster
I'd much prefer store credit though. I like my LGS though since they have a wide variety of singles, their prices are always on point and never a ripoff, and the staff is extremely friendly.
