How are pools perceived in your country?

Pools are "weird", mainly because they are considered unhygienic and dirty. It's said that only dumb teenagers use them. Nonetheless, in most wards, you can access public pools for a couple of hours for around ¥400 (¥200 for minors).
Also, people here use "pūru/プール" to refer to pools, which is how the English word is adapted into Japanese phonetics.
