I've read almost every single decent Shadow related fanfiction out there, I'm obsessive. The amount of fanfics that are even semi-believably in character are small, and a discouraging amount of people don't understand proper grammar, syntax, and spacing. My immersion is often broken to the point that I need to give up reading it midway through.
I know a lot of these fanfics are probably written by underaged teenagers, but I have old unfinished fanfictions I wrote when I was 14 and they're still properly formatted. NSFW fanfictions are (or should be) written by adults, yet some of the same errors are present in them too.

Do every day people just...not know really basic things about writing? Like using the enter key to break up walls of text, or specifying who's talking? Don't they teach this in schools? Isn't reading a book required? I was top 3 among the hundreds in my school when it came to test scores, so maybe my pespective is skewed, but I still feel like your average joe should be able to pick up on these things...? Maybe AI should replace us, we kinda deserve it.
