And that's delusional. Ian Flynn is antithetical to Sonic as a character. He will never be a good Sonic writer.

Not even I entirely understand my aversion to it. Being liked or wanted often feels strange and uncomfortable, even if I'm grateful.
I don't understand why they want to talk to me. Even when they explain why, it both makes sense and doesn't. I read and understand it but can't digest them. There's a disconnect between my self-perception and their words.

At first, he had raged. Screamed. Clawed at the walls of his prison with phantom limbs, cursing Sonic, Shadow, Eggman—everyone who had led him to this fate. His hatred burned like a dying star, relentless and consuming.

But eons passed. Or maybe seconds. Time meant nothing here.

And then... it spoke.

"Was it worth it?"

The voice was his own, but softer. Hollow.

Infinite snarled. "Shut up."

"You gave up everything," the voice continued, indifferent to his fury. "Your squad. Your pride. Your freedom. For what? A power that abandoned you the moment you needed it most."

"I WAS STRONG!" Infinite roared into the void. "I WAS UNSTOPPABLE!"

"And now you are nothing."

The words settled like dust. Infinite wanted to tear the voice apart, but there was nothing to fight. No enemy to crush. Just the endless dark, and the slow, suffocating weight of realization.

The voice sighed. "I’m tired of hating. There’s no point anymore."

"Coward!" Infinite spat. "You’re weak, just like the rest of them!"

"Maybe."

And then—silence. The voice didn’t argue. It didn’t scream. It just... faded.

Infinite waited for it to return, to give him something—anything—to fight against. But it was gone. He was alone again.

His rage flared anew. "COME BACK! FIGHT ME!"

But the void swallowed his words.

The other him had given up.

And as Infinite screamed into eternity, part of him—buried deep, where even hatred couldn’t reach—wondered if it would have been easier to fade too.

But he wouldn’t. He couldn’t.

So he screamed.

When I played the Tokyo level at the end of my Shadow Generations playthrough, and reflected on the game, and Rouge's comment that Shadow would probably like Classic Sonic, and then went back and suffered through the start of Sonic Generations only to put it down, and thought about Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog again, after I had done all that, God sent me a revelation.

Shadow as he's currently written is much closer to my "ideal conception" of Sonic than Modern Sonic is.

I've read almost every single decent Shadow related fanfiction out there, I'm obsessive. The amount of fanfics that are even semi-believably in character are small, and a discouraging amount of people don't understand proper grammar, syntax, and spacing. My immersion is often broken to the point that I need to give up reading it midway through.
I know a lot of these fanfics are probably written by underaged teenagers, but I have old unfinished fanfictions I wrote when I was 14 and they're still properly formatted. NSFW fanfictions are (or should be) written by adults, yet some of the same errors are present in them too.

Do every day people just...not know really basic things about writing? Like using the enter key to break up walls of text, or specifying who's talking? Don't they teach this in schools? Isn't reading a book required? I was top 3 among the hundreds in my school when it came to test scores, so maybe my pespective is skewed, but I still feel like your average joe should be able to pick up on these things...?
