It was a mistake giving Internet to the wider masses
Almost all of modern problems can be traced back to social media.
> Loneliness epidemic: people having too high standards due to being exposed to minority of super pretty/handsome people on social media and dating apps and feeling like someone better is always a few swipes away
> Attention seeking and stupid trends: people do all kind of stupid shits for attention online and other people copy them hoping to get more attention
> Societal division (on gender, race, religion...): it existed before, but today it has been upped to the max because of algorithms intentionally pushing divisive opinions for more clicks. Same goes for conspiracy theories and other stupid stuff.
> Increase in depression: similar to first point, people see successful (often fake) people online and feel inadequate or like they are failures
> Alienation: people replace real relationships (friendships etc.) with para-social and pseudo-social relationships online.

There were always successful people and dumb stupid people but they never had a platform which disproportionately amplifies their importance and reach.

if you were too broke for college, you're fucked. i'd rather be in debt for the rest of my life if it meant i had any skill in my interests whatsoever
