The remake initially seems like an honest effort to modernize a classic but it manages to fail in some really important areas.
>Gameplay
The game has turned insanely easy. You get +5s in any attribute you want, no matter what class you play as or what skills you've been using. By level 15 you'll already have 2 maxed attributes which is insanely good. The distinction between Major and Minor skills might as well be a fashion choice as now Minor skills also contribute to level ups which makes leveling really fast and futher renders the class system pointless. Weapon swings downgraded to what i'd call "combos" For example, instead of being able to slash away at a boar with your dagger, now your character does 2 slashes and a stab, even if you clicked more than 3 times. The worst offender in this is two-handed weapons which are locked to a couple of swings only and it sucks ass. There's also smaller stuff like power attacks with certain weapons having extra effects like bleeding or giving you Shield instead of the old stuff like knockback, disarm or paralyze, giving The Lord and other signs huge buffs. The only objectively good gameplay change was making daggers scale with Agility instead of Strength which makes it more appealing for ninja characters.
>UI/Quality of Life
There ARE some neat things like disabling the zoom-in character faces while in dialog, showing both the shop and the player's inventories at the same time, colored icons on the map but there's also a handful of fuck ups. Items and spells are somehow not properly sorted like in the original. You browse through your inventory all items tab and you'll find both potions, armor and gems all mixed together, not grouped seperately at all, this is a mess and inexcuseable. There's also a few other UI related things that escape me at the moment but in general its one step forward, half a step back.
