afaik, the German army wants to adopt a new model called medium forces based mostly on wheeled platforms (mainly Boxer).
the point is to be armored and armed well enough to be able to fight independently while still being more easily deployable and mobile than a force consisting of heavier tracked vehicles like Leo 2s and Pumas, because those take longer to reach the combat area and need railway transport
