Well, I've been here for too long. I can tell you that /sthg/ (assuming we share any opinions for a moment) has never fully embraced the siblings meme. Shadria content has existed here for over a decade.
The interpretation of the two as "siblings" and nothing more is actually fairly new to the Sonic fanbase. Pre-2017/pre-"cancel culture" it wasn't brought up much. Instead, people who didn't like Shadria would go for the anti-Sonelise angle of attack: by pretending Shadow's a literal hedgehog. Sometimes I still see that mindset, I have a lot of fun reminding them that they goon to Rouge and thus have no right to speak.

Looking further back to forum posts from the early to mid-2000s, you'll find plenty of jokes suggesting Shadow has a romantic obsession with Maria. That was the common interpretation before social media. Interestingly, this resurfaced after Sonic 3, where normies jokingly referred to Maria as Shadow's girlfriend.
This is because, to those not in the fanbase, Shadow and Maria's interactions can easily be interpreted as romantic. Anyone with siblings knows that siblings do not behave like Shadow and Maria do. So that love of theirs is often perceived as romantic by casuals until someone on social media screams in their ear about how "wrong" it is.
I'm also autistic about gatekeeping siblingfags here. I genuinely love gathering sources, I have a several page long document filled with them. And it's very difficult for people to deny it when I'm citing things straight from Sonic Team. It's fascinating to watch their behavior change as they realize that there's internal support for it.

This is a rare instance where Sparky's brick wall attitude works against him. If it were me, I'd be dogging on the tr**n relentlessly for using AI as a crutch. But he has a need to respond to it genuinely, and any human would become exhausted by arguing with an LLM for hours.
